Metal sculpture course no. 65

We’ve just run our 65th metal sculpture course and we were joined by two new students and two veteran students. In my room we had Dave and Gareth. Dave aka ‘Fat Dave(s Workshop)’ already knew how to weld but was persuaded to come on the course by his friend Ilona who we had on the course last September. He brought some scrap metal with him all the way from his remote workshop on the Lake District hills and created a figurative fire pit / burner. After a weekend of noise and people he was probably glad to get home for some peace and quiet. Gareth was bought his place as a present and he came with no other plans other than just to make a dog, which he easily managed and which got more and more character as the course progressed. In Billy’s room we had the two Steve’s, we think they’ve done the course at least four times, maybe five so it was just a case of setting them up and off they went. Steve 1 made about nine butterflies on perches, making good use of the plasma cutter in the process. Steve 2 quickly made a wind vane then a bird that looked quite cormorant like and then because he had a bit of time left, some flowers. Thanks as ever to Billy or David Mayne as he’s formally known who I run the course with and if you want to have a go just get in touch. All this year’s courses are sold out but we can put you on the list to get next year’s dates before they’re officially released.
