Fenella the tiger

Yesterday was a fun day at Holmfirth J & I School working with year 6 on a project for Holmfirth Arts Festival. It’s hard to believe that there was a pet tiger living in Holmfirth almost 100 years ago but it’s true – I knew someone who saw it being exercised in the field next to the school when he was a boy.  In fact one of the kids I worked with said she lives in the house where the tiger lived and there are claw marks in one of the cupboards. So, coming up with something to go next to the river during the Arts Festival wasn’t too difficult when I was asked to work with Nab School. I’d already made the frame from about 100 metres of round bar so it was a question of covering it with tape and plastic sheeting with the kids and then painting it before we put black gaffer tape stripes round it to hold the whole thing together. The weather was great so working outside was lovely, the staff were really helpful, particularly Mr McGoven and the kids really got stuck into making the tiger come to life.
