We just ran course number 64 and only had 3 students this time because one dropped out at the last minute due to ill health. We pinched Mo from the ceramics courses here at Sculpture Lounge, Ben came along with a piece he’d started on another course ten years ago and Mandy came back for her second course with us. Mo wanted to built a sculptural cage form around one of her ceramics pieces and then smash the ceramic piece afterwards, which sounded like an excellent idea to us. She’d never welded before but wanted to learn as she’s starting an MA soon which includes some time in a metalwork shop and wanted to be prepared. Ben brought his scaled up piece of Whitby jet in thick steel plate which had slightly annoyed him for the past ten years so he set about rectifying it with more steel plate and lots of grinding, lots and lots of grinding. He did also make a stand for it so it could now be displayed properly which involved lots more grinding. Mandy came on one of our courses a couple of years ago so it was nice to see her again and she just worked steadily away all weekend making a huge ammonite, mostly from a box of scrap tools she’d brought with her. We’re fully booked for the rest of the year but if you want to go on our waiting list for a possible cancellation or you want next years dates before we officially release them, just email me. Thanks as ever to Professor Billy who I run the courses with and who knows, maybe we’ll see you soon.
