Metal sculpture course no.71

That’s it for us from 2026, we’ve just run our 71st course with two returning students and two new ones. In my room were Helen and Catherine. Helen brought a big tank with her that she’d picked up from a scrapyard and proceeded to make it into a large buddha type head with the addition of some scrap tools and a lot of plasma cutting. Catherine just wanted to make some garden pieces inspired by plants and simply came armed with some sketches and left with five plants at the end of the weekend. In Billy’s room we had Steve back again making more butterflies and birds on poles using a mixture of plasma cutting and welding. Newcomer Matt wanted to make a big plant to go in his rockery which he did by plasma cutting out the leaf shapes, shaping them and adding them to a stalk. Everyone left happy, armed with pieces they’d made themselves so Billy and I can now take a break from running courses until March. We do this because it does get a bit cold in our workshops over the winter but if you want to try your hand next year then just drop me an email. Thank you as ever to Billy, real name David Mayne, go look at his website david-mayne.co.uk, for running the courses with me.
