Last weekend we ran yet another metal sculpture course for 4 students, 3 of whom had never welded before. After teaching them to use a MIG welder, we guided them through how to make a sculpture. Leslie came along with her son Lawrence and she quickly got to grips with the welder and made two birds from old tools which could also pivot down to look like thy were feeding because she used two old crane hooks for the bodies. Lawrence spent a lot of time deciding which were the right bits to use and to be fair there were so many materials to choose from. Eventually he made a turkey looking bird and then a working catapult. James had never welded before either but after learning to use the MIG welder he set to adding more and more pieces onto his spaceship / kraken battle piece. Chris was on his third visit to us and this time made two novelty cooker hoods for his barbecue and pizza oven from an old oil drum. Everyone completed their pieces over the weekend and were surprised as usual by what they could achieve. Thanks as usual to professor Billy aka David Mayne for running the course with me.
